What do you want help with?
“Outfit app” can mean a visual inventory, a calendar, a styling service or an AI conversation. Start with the part of getting dressed that feels difficult. You may need a place to save ideas more than you need another source of them.
- I want help deciding what to wear
Explore Cladwell’s daily guidance; compare Acloset and Nouva for other AI approaches.
- I have ideas and want to organize them
Look closely at Stylebook’s manual planning tools and Indyx’s wardrobe tools.
- I want to share and style with friends
Start with Whering’s social experience; also explore Indyx’s sharing options.
- I want a human stylist
Read Indyx’s service packages and choose a person whose approach suits you.
- I want to run my own software
Read Wardrowbe’s self-hosting documentation before committing your wardrobe.
Seven apps, different strengths.
These are selected options with distinct approaches, not an exhaustive directory or a ranking based on hands-on testing. Each has a reason someone might choose it.
Cladwell
Everyday guidance, with a catalog-first start
A 15,000-item catalog, product links and personal photos let you build a closet in more than one way. Daily outfit suggestions and stylist chat help you use it. Color analysis and the Style Quiz are on iPhone and iPad; the app also runs on Android.
Free closet; paid Your Stylist plan. See current purchase-channel terms below.
Whering
Sharing wardrobes and styling with friends
Whering foregrounds social styling alongside a digital closet, planning, wardrobe insights and packing. Consider it when exploring real wardrobes and getting ideas from other people are part of the appeal.
Check the current store and in-app offer for your region.
Stylebook
Hands-on outfit boards and detailed records
Stylebook combines a free-form outfit canvas with Outfit Shuffle, a calendar, packing lists and wardrobe statistics. Its history reaches back to 2009, so Cladwell is not the only established option here.
Official FAQ: one-time $4.99 US purchase; iPhone and iPad. Confirm your store price.
Indyx
Choosing a human stylist
Indyx brings wardrobe organization together with bookable human styling. It also provides free core closet tools, with additional features under Insider. A stylist’s package and an AI subscription are different services.
Free core tools; paid membership and separate styling packages.
Acloset
Purchase imports and AI wardrobe tools
Acloset documents purchase-history and email imports, photo recognition, AI outfit advice and virtual try-on. Supported stores and import formats vary. Its own story dates the project’s beginnings to 2020.
Official support: up to 100 items free; a subscription beyond that. Check current terms.
Nouva
Scored outfit feedback and shopping checks
Nouva describes outfit color-harmony scores, a mirror-selfie Style Check and Shop Scan for a possible purchase. Consider whether a score and a direct buying verdict match the kind of advice you want.
Free tier with item and weekly usage limits; paid Plus raises them.
Wardrowbe
Open source and a self-hosted wardrobe
Wardrowbe offers an open-source core and a separate hosted Cloud service. Self-hosting lets you choose your infrastructure and AI provider; it also means taking responsibility for running the service.
Paid Cloud or free-to-license self-hosted core; running costs may still apply.
Wardrowbe’s core and Cloud explanation · Cladwell vs Wardrowbe
Wardrowbe’s Android information is inconsistent: its site describes Android apps while its Google Play badge says “Coming Soon.” Confirm access for your device. Do not assume every feature works on every platform.
Getting clothes in is part of the decision.
A digital wardrobe is only useful if you can build and maintain it. Compare the entry method with the clothes you own and the records you already have.
An existing clothing catalog
Cladwell’s 15,000-item catalog lets you choose representative clothes without photographing each one. A plain T-shirt or familiar pair of jeans can be enough to begin. For a distinctive item, use a personal image or product link. A catalog equivalent is a representation, not proof of the exact fit, shade or fabric of your garment.
Photos, links and purchase records
Check whether the app accepts the pictures or shopping records you already have. Stylebook also provides clothing images and import options; Whering lists a database and browser extension; Acloset documents purchase imports. Catalog entry and reduced-photo setup are not exclusive to Cladwell.
Image cleanup with choices
Background removal separates a garment from its surroundings. AI cleanup can change the presentation further. Cladwell 6.0’s planned Improve photo workflow offers cleanup, comparison and the choice to keep the original, alongside background removal and replacement. Competitors also provide image tools, so we do not claim the most advanced processing or the fastest setup without a common test.
Outfit apps over the years.
The category has expanded from cataloging and planning into social styling, human services and AI guidance. Those approaches now overlap. These dated milestones are reference points, not a complete history or a claim that each stage replaced the last.
- 2009
Stylebook’s roots. Stylebook dates its founding to 2009. Its long history is a reminder that useful wardrobe software predates today’s AI tools.
Stylebook’s history- 2016
Cladwell’s continuing work. Cladwell has helped people make more of their wardrobes since 2016. In 2026 it combines its clothing catalog and outfit guidance with color discovery, style exploration and chat.
About Cladwell- 2020
Another AI wardrobe story begins. Acloset describes the project starting in 2020. This is its stated origin date, not a verified public app-release date.
Acloset’s account of its origins- 2026
More kinds of help coexist. The apps in this guide span manual planning, shared wardrobes, bookable human styling, AI feedback and self-hosting. Cladwell’s forthcoming 6.0 expands outfit creation, photo controls and capsule planning.

A wardrobe is built over time.
Adding clothes, saving looks and logging wears is an investment of attention. Cladwell’s history since 2016 matters because this is a habit people build over years. It does not make Cladwell the oldest app, guarantee future availability or prove it is best for every person.
Look beyond the launch story. Check recent store updates, support information, backup and export options, account deletion, device compatibility and what happens when a paid plan ends. If exporting your wardrobe is essential, verify the exact format and what it includes before entering everything.
Keep your original garment photos somewhere you control. Before moving apps, test a small closet and preserve the records you need. Do not delete the old account until you know what transfers and what you will need to recreate.
Coming in Cladwell 6.0
Forthcoming on iPhone and iPad. These are planned release features, separate from what you can download today. Availability depends on the released version, plan and rollout; Android timing may differ.
- A new way to build outfits
- Create and adjust looks from your closet, get suggestions and use an inspiration photo as a starting point.
- More control over clothing photos
- Improve photo offers AI cleanup for a clearer background, more even light and a straightened garment. Compare the result, choose it or keep the original. Background removal and replacing a photo are separate options.
- A capsule plan you can use
- Build a capsule roadmap around your style and needs, see outfit formulas and color roles, and turn the plan into a capsule in your closet.
- Help with the pieces still missing
- Explore suggested pieces and product options, with brands and budget settings to guide the search.
- A closer look at your wardrobe
- Ask styling questions from an item, explore closet insights and see AI usage in Settings.
These additions build on Cladwell’s existing catalog, outfit suggestions, stylist chat and wear tracking. A cleanup preview is an AI-generated image; check that it still represents your garment.
Compare the cost of the job you need done.
A free closet, a one-time app purchase, an AI subscription, a human styling package and a self-hosted installation buy different things. Count item limits, usage allowances, maintenance and your own time alongside the price.
Cladwell’s closet is free. Web subscriptions to Your Stylist cost $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year (USD). Web purchases do not include a free trial. In-app prices and trial offers may differ by platform, region and eligibility. Check your purchase screen for the price, trial and cancellation terms that apply to you. Existing subscribers keep their current terms.
Read Cladwell’s plan details. For other apps, use the official links above and confirm the offer on your device. This guide does not treat a trial as a permanent free plan.
Try a small closet before committing.
- Add a representative selection. Include everyday basics, one distinctive piece, shoes and a layer. Use clothes you actually wear.
- Plan for a real day. Include the weather, activity and how comfortable you need to be. Check whether the result is complete enough to wear.
- Change one thing. Swap shoes, reject a suggestion or edit an item. Notice whether you understand the controls.
- Use it again. Save a look, log a wear or ask a follow-up. The useful app is the one you return to, not just the one with an impressive first screen.
- Check the ongoing terms. Confirm the price, limits, supported devices and how you can preserve your records.
For a focused starting wardrobe, use our capsule wardrobe guide. You can learn what helps without buying new clothes or cataloging everything at once.
How this guide was made.
Published by Cladwell, one of the apps discussed. We checked the official pages below on October 19, 2026 and used Cladwell’s product documentation. This is a source-based buying guide, not an independent review or a hands-on quality benchmark. The recommendations are our assessment of which needs each product may suit.
We include forthcoming Cladwell 6.0 features because they are part of the upcoming release, and label them separately from current availability. We have not assigned unverified launch years to Nouva or Wardrowbe. Prices, feature limits and release timing can change; the checked date is not an automated freshness claim.
